Writing to Learn

Based on Dr. Steven Graham’s meta analysis focused on the importance of using writing to improve reading, we will focus on six key areas of writing across all disciplines:

  • Have students write like a field specialist.
  • Have students explore personal identity through writing.
  • Have students converse with a text through writing.
  • Have students write summaries of a text.
  • Have students annotate texts.
  • Have students write for real-world audiences to effect social change.
